About us
We are the Northern Society of Costume and Textiles, a subject-specialist group founded in 1977 to promote and celebrate the study of all aspects of dress and textiles, historical and modern.
We organise a programme of quarterly meetings with lectures and workshops by guest speakers covering a range of subjects. We also organise visits to collections and exhibitions.
Members come from all walks of life, including curators, collectors and conservators, makers and lifelong learners, students and enthusiasts. Everyone with an interest in costume and textiles is welcome.
You don’t have to be a member to come to our meetings, members get a discount on tickets. Take a look at our Membership page for more.
What we do

Collection visits. Trips to private and public collections, and museum exhibitions, that are hard to see any other way.
Member Display and Discuss. Bring along a treasured garment or textile, and share its story.
Sewing patterns. Museum-replica patterns based on authentic historical pieces, scaled and drawn from the originals.
